Who are the Energy Smiths?
The Energy Smiths is owned by David Gordon and Jason Knight. We have strong backgrounds in energy efficiency, engineering, and sales. The ownership began working in the energy efficiency industry nearly 25 years ago, and for the past 15 years, David and Jason have owned a consulting company that provided energy efficiency assessments and lighting project specifications to various customers. Now, David and Jason have teamed up to expand on the deep industry knowledge and offer custom lighting upgrades. The Energy Smiths is not like other LED lighting companies in San Diego, they bring a new perspective and reliability to the industry with their family oriented background. The growing business has expanded the team, and works out of a comfortable office in Scripps Ranch, within short distance to all their projects in San Diego County. Meet our Team
Jason Knight
Jason has been in the energy efficiency business since his time with the Industrial Assessment Center at San Diego StateUniversity. The bulk of his 15 year career has been spent developing energy efficiency projects and managing utility programs, helping local governments and business owners reduce their energy use. Here, he is in charge of engineering and calculations for energy usage in relation to utility bills.
Dave Gordon
Dave is the owner and head of development of The Energy Smiths. As a graduate of UC San Diego, he has a great knowledge of the San Diego area and economy. He also has experience in the energy sector and government work, and helps lead the way in expanding business and logistics.
Emma Head
Emma is the Marketing and Branding Coordinator at The Energy Smiths. A senior at San Diego State University studying marketing and sustainability, she brings new perspectives into the office thinking about both financial and green incentives for LEDs. Her role in the office includes building the website and marketing strategy, assisting the sales team, and acting as chief executive dog-petter.

How are we different than the competition?
The Energy Smiths stand out from other typical LED lighting companies in San Diego because we have deep knowledge about the products on the market, utility programs, and most importantly utility rates.
We take the time to analyze the individual utility rate tariffs that each of our clients are billed against and we accurately use the appropriate billing rate for our energy savings analysis. This gives an accurate report of what savings are available. We also calculate how much carbon emissions can be diverted, minimizing each company’s carbon footprint.
