As of September 2017, another round of lighting rebates are available from San Diego Gas & Electric. What does this mean for the consumer?
The goal of this program is to replace inefficient lights with newer LED models cutting down on wasted energy. Mandated by the California Public Utilities Council, these rebates actually pay consumers to save money on energy in the future. They realize the benefits of LED to both the consumer and the environment including durability, energy efficiency, and extended usable life. With growing energy efficiency standards in California especially, getting ahead of changing regulations saves time and frustration in the long run. Legislation like Title 24 is making an impact on lighting upgrades and standards in California, and is only getting more stringent over the years.
These rebates allow lighting contractors to use instant savings at point of purchase. According to Jason Knight of The Energy Smiths, “Rebates can pay for 10% of the material costs, some lightbulbs are even free.” These lighting rebates can range from $2 to $80 per lamp or fixture, cutting down the price of materials for a project substantially. With contractors dealing with the nitty gritty of the rebates process, the customer can enjoy the benefits without dealing with the paperwork.
These savings fall through to the customer and can save 5 to 10 percent on a typical lighting job. These savings will not last more than a year, so now is an ideal time to invest before these funds dry up. These instant lighting rebates only supplement the savings that lighting upgrades provide. LED lighting can save easily halve lighting costs on a typical utility bill, making the return on investment incredibly desirable.
